Offline AI for iPhone. Private and free.
LeLau is a free iPhone app that answers questions with no internet connection. It searches knowledge packs stored on your phone and writes the answer with an AI model that runs on your phone. No account, no ads, no tracking.
Ask anything your packs know, even in airplane mode
Six packs included. Survival Guide, Medicine and first aid, Math and Physics, Chemistry, Food, water and shelter, and Legal. Pick one when you start and it is ready in seconds.
Your own packs. Turn PDFs, pasted notes or a Wikipedia topic into a private pack on your iPhone. When the material does not cover a question, LeLau says so instead of guessing.
Siri, widgets and Share. "Hey Siri, ask LeLau", a Home Screen widget, or select text in any app and choose Ask LeLau.
You choose the AI, and it runs on your iPhone
Pick an answer model when you set up. Gemma 4 E2B is recommended; Granite 4.0 H 1B and Qwen 3.5 0.8B are smaller; Llama 3.2, LFM 2.5, SmolLM 3, Ministral 3, MiniCPM 5 and Bonsai are there too. LeLau only offers models that fit your iPhone, downloads each once from Hugging Face after you confirm, checks it against its SHA-256 fingerprint, and lets you delete it any time.
No model yet? LeLau still searches your packs offline and quotes what it finds. Have LM Studio or Ollama on a Mac or PC? LeLau Link (preview) uses its bigger models over your Wi-Fi.
Private by design
There is no LeLau account and no LeLau server. Answers are written on the iPhone, and the App Store privacy label reads Data Not Collected.
Two things can leave the phone, both optional. Web look-up sends a shortened question over Tor to Wikipedia or DuckDuckGo, and only a place, coin or currency pair to Open-Meteo, CoinGecko or Frankfurter; turn it off in Settings. Model downloads go directly to Hugging Face by default, or through Tor if you choose. Who receives what.
Questions
Is there an AI app for iPhone that works without internet?
Yes. LeLau answers questions with no connection. It searches knowledge packs stored on the iPhone and writes the answer with an AI model that runs on the iPhone, so it keeps working in airplane mode, on a plane, or with no signal.
Is LeLau free?
Yes. LeLau is free on the App Store, with no subscription, no in-app purchases, no ads and no account.
Does LeLau send my questions to a server?
No. There is no LeLau server, and answers are written on the iPhone. The only things that leave the phone are optional: web look-up, which you can turn off, sends a shortened question over Tor to Wikipedia or DuckDuckGo, and a model download asks Hugging Face for one file. The App Store privacy label reads Data Not Collected.
Which AI models does LeLau use?
You choose an AI model that runs on your iPhone. Gemma 4 E2B is recommended; smaller models such as Granite 4.0 H 1B and Qwen 3.5 0.8B suit iPhones with less memory, and Llama 3.2, LFM 2.5, SmolLM 3, Ministral 3, MiniCPM 5 and Bonsai are also available. Search uses EmbeddingGemma 2 and the mxbai reranker, built into the app.
What can LeLau answer offline?
Six knowledge packs come with the app: Survival Guide, Medicine and first aid, Math and Physics, Chemistry, Food, water and shelter, and Legal. You can add your own packs from PDFs, pasted notes or a Wikipedia topic.
Can I ask questions about my own PDFs offline?
Yes. Import a PDF or paste notes and LeLau builds a private pack on the iPhone. Questions are then answered from that material without a connection, and LeLau says so when the material does not cover the question.
Which iPhone do I need?
An iPhone with iOS 16.4 or later. LeLau only offers the AI models that fit your iPhone's memory; the recommended Gemma 4 E2B needs an iPhone with 8 GB of memory, and smaller models run on older iPhones.
How is LeLau different from ChatGPT?
ChatGPT runs in the cloud, so it needs a connection and sends your questions to OpenAI. LeLau runs on your iPhone, works offline and needs no account. Its models are much smaller, so its answers are shorter and can be wrong; it grounds them in your packs and tells you when the packs do not cover a question.
Can LeLau replace a doctor or emergency services?
No. LeLau can help you find first-aid and survival information when there is no signal, but it can be wrong. In an emergency, call your local emergency number.
